MRS MOON BLOG

Nearly there...!

November 02, 2009

We've had quite a hectic half term and to be honest it hasn't been the most exciting one for the kids, but we've made loads of progress with fitting the shop out. We're really lucky to have some good friends doing all the hard work - special thanks to Stefan, Mick the Painter and Steve who are pulling out all the stops to get us open. We've been putting in a few exciting orders this week and have just been ogling beautiful ribbons and trims from VV Rouleaux. The choice is endless so we've tried to be a bit restrained! We aim to open the doors for the first time on Tuesday 10th so watch this space. A very busy week and weekend lies ahead.......

Time for the Marigolds

October 15, 2009

At last, we have the keys to the shop and there is loads to do! Thank you to Anna who came in with us to clear out the rubbish that has somehow accumulated in an empty shop... it was definitely a day for rubber gloves as there were a few nasties lurking in with the junk mail. Mick and Jamie are in there now, clearing out the cellar so that we get on with the exciting stuff of kitting the shop out .

We've already got some of the yarn delivered and it is beautiful...! All very exciting....

The Inspiration Behind Mrs Moon

September 30, 2009

Knitting and sewing has changed so much since our mother had a shop selling fabric, yarn and haberdashery in the late 70s. At the time there was nothing exciting out there to knit and people had almost given up on making their own clothes (apart from mum, who made us identical outfits for everything). Now there is just so much beautiful yarn available and more and more people want to learn to knit, crochet and sew.

We're not uber-knitters, but love to knit and crochet and have a go! We love beautiful yarn and have been longing to find somewhere where we could spend some time, perusing yarn and patterns and getting some impartial advice. And so Mrs Moon was born.....

Our name is inspired by the poem by Roger McGough:

Mrs Moon
sitting up in the sky
little old lady
rock-a-bye
with a ball of fading light
and silvery needles
knitting the night

We hope to have the shop up and running very soon...

Watch this space!
