Simple Crochet Bedspread Kit
This kit gives you everything you need to make the smallest size of blanket, except the hook. Please just drop us an email on [email protected] if you would like to make another size.
This simple pattern makes the most beautiful effect when crocheted in contrasting colours. The bedspreads/throws are super-luxurious, incredibly soft and warm and stunning additions to any room.
This project is suitable for anyone who can do doubles and trebles - really simple!
The pattern repeat is given so you can make yours whatever size you fancy. Just buy your Plump here. To buy the pattern click on the tab above.
You will also need a 12mm crochet hook
To give you an idea how far the yarn goes we have given some sizes below:
small size: 165cm wide by 100cm deep, comes in 4 colours (3 skeins of each) ie.12 skeins in total . Lovely as a throw or runner across a single or double bed. Colours shown bottom photo below: Pavlova, Earl Grey, Gooseberry and Damson Jam.
medium size: 165cm wide by 133cm deep, comes in 4 colours (4 skeins of each) ie.16 skeins in total. Perfect for a double bed. Colours shown below: Pavlova, Rhubarb Crumble, Fondant Fancy and Raspberry Ripple.
large size: 270cm wide by 100cm deep, comes in 6 colours (4 skeins of each). Colours (main photograph): Pavlova, Fondant Fancy, Pistachio, Peppermint, Gooseberry and Sugared Almond. This is really just a guide to how far the yarn goes. If I made this size again I would make it narrower as it drags on the floor either side of a King Size bed by several inches, making it narrower would also mean you would get more depth.
Rainbow colourway: 180cm x 100cm deep. Karen made this colourway as a camping blanket for her husband. Very toasty! She just made the chain the width she wanted and worked out this colourway and then stopped when she had finished a pattern repeat and was happy with the dimensions.

Plump Superchunky is a pretty standard superchunky (superbulky) weight yarn and can be substituted as such. You should be careful to check the length of yarn per ball as well as the weight. Alpaca is denser that a lot of other fibres so doesn't go quite as far as some. Plump has 70m per 100g.
When working out which hook to use, bear in mind that Susan and Karen are quite loose crocheters. If you know you crochet tightly, go up at least one hook size to make sure you get the lovely softness and drape in the project you are making that the yarn can give.
Ballband Tension (gauge):
Using a 10mm needle over stocking stitch 10sts to 10cm.
We really recommend not getting too stressed about exact tensions. Everyone crochets differently and your tension can even change with your mood! If you have found a yarn you really like and it's in the right ball park, why not buy a ball and give it a go? Try a slightly different hook size if you are way off the right tension. If you are putting all the effort into creating then best to use a yarn you love!

Washing
Plump Superchunky and Plump DK are made from the highest quality superfine merino and baby alpaca. These really are special and luxurious fibres and should be treated carefully! Having said that both yarns are suitable for delicate hand washing. Use a specialist detergent and do not agitate or twist the fibres to retain the gorgeous softness and shape of your garment.
Shedding
Because of the roving nature of our yarns (they are single ply, rather than tightly twisted), some shedding may occur. The best way to deal with this is spray your finished garment with water and leave to dry flat, naturally before the first wearing. This sets the fibres and should stop any problems. If you want any further advice just drop us a line at [email protected]
Using your yarn
All our yarn comes in skeins. Before using you need to wind the skein into a ball or you will get into an awful tangled mess! If you are not sure how to do this you can watch our video here!
