Chunky Boxy Jumper
This is a real classic. A very simple sweater to knit and wear. Our Chunky Boxy Jumper is knitted in the round, from the top down. It's incredibly simple to do and we really would encourage you to have a go at knitting in the round if you've never done it before, especially when using a chunky yarn like Plump as there are no bulky seams to sew up.
Our lovely model, Clara is wearing the small size and she is an 8 UK . The beauty of knitting from the top down is you can try the yoke on before you split for the sleeves and then work out if you need to add a few rows for a size up before you've gone beyond the point of no return.
Instructions are given for a polo neck and crew neck and guidance given if you would prefer to have ribbing at the bottom of the sleeves and sweater body.
You will need the following amounts of Plump (7, 8, 9 skeins respectively) for (8-10, 12-14, 16-18) and a pdf download of the pattern which you can get by clicking the tab above.
You will need 10mm circular needles and 10mm dpns (for the sleeves). You can use 12mm dpns for the neck if you require the neck shown, otherwise 10mm dpns will suffice for the crew neck.
Shown in peppermint cream
Plump is a pretty standard superchunky (super bulky) weight and can be substituted as such.
Ballband Tension (gauge):
Using 10mm needles over stocking stitch: 10 sts to every 10cm
We have used it on many different needle sizes from 8mm to 20mm according to the structure and drape of fabric we want to produce. The larger the needle, the looser the fabric will be.
Washing
Plump Superchunky and Plump DK are made from the highest quality superfine merino and baby alpaca. These really are special and luxurious fibres and should be treated carefully! Having said that both yarns are suitable for delicate hand washing. Use a specialist detergent and do not agitate or twist the fibres to retain the gorgeous softness and shape of your garment.
Shedding
Because of the roving nature of our yarns (they are single ply, rather than tightly twisted), some shedding may occur. The best way to deal with this is spray your finished garment with water and leave to dry flat, naturally before the first wearing. This sets the fibres and should stop any problems. Using your yarn
All our yarn comes in skeins. Before using you need to wind the skein into a ball or you will get into an awful tangled mess! If you are not sure how to do this you can watch our video here!
