Sunburst Granny Blanket

£4.50

A stunning heirloom blanket, made in our beautifully soft and warm Plump DK.  Make it as colourful or as subtle as you want.

This was really fun to make in Plump DK. I did all the circular centres first, and tried to keep them quite random, although I have noticed that I did have favourite combinations! You could crochet them together when you are doing the final round but I found it easier completing them all first and then slip stitching them together.

You will need:
Plump DK:
9 colours (one skein of each) for the centres, I used Marmalade, Rhubarb Crumble, Gooseberry Fool, Lemon Curd, Blueberry Muffin, Earl Grey, Fondant Fancy, Peppermint Cream and Damson Jam.
7 skeins of the outside colour, (shown in Pavlova).
Any border would look lovely, but if you do the border in the picture then you will need an additional 3 skeins (shown in Peppermint). So 19 skeins of Plump DK in total.

You will also need a pdf download of the pattern which you can get buy clicking the tab above.

You will need a 4.5mm crochet hook.

There is enough yarn to make 60 - 64 squares. Finished Measurements: 120cm x 72cm (approx)

Pattern kit: If you would like to buy the kit which includes all the yarn you need and a copy of the pattern, packaged in a kraft envelope then click here.

Plump dk is a pretty standard doubleknit or light worsted weight yarn.   We have used it for straight double knit projects as well as projects specifying an aran weight yarn and found it works well for both.  Any needle size from 3.75mm to 4.5mm is great.

Ballband Tension (gauge):
Using a 4mm needle over stocking stitch: 22 sts to 10cm and 30 rows.

We really recommend not getting too stressed about exact tensions.  Everyone knits differently and your knitting tension can even change with your mood!  If you have found a yarn you really like and it's in the right ball park, why not buy a ball and give it a go?  Try a slightly different needle size if you are way off the right tension.  If you are putting all the effort into knitting then best to use a yarn you love!

Washing
Plump Superchunky and Plump DK are made from the highest quality superfine merino and baby alpaca.  These really are special and luxurious fibres and should be treated carefully!  Having said that both yarns are suitable for delicate hand washing.  Use a specialist detergent and do not agitate or twist the fibres to retain the gorgeous softness and shape of your garment.

Shedding
Because of the roving nature of our yarns (they are single ply, rather than tightly twisted), some shedding may occur.  The best way to deal with this is spray your finished garment with water and leave to dry flat, naturally before the first wearing.  This sets the fibres and should stop any problems.  If you want any further advice just drop us a line at [email protected]

Using your yarn
All our yarn comes in skeins.  Before using you need to wind the skein into a ball or you will get into an awful tangled mess!  If you are not sure how to do this you can watch our video here!
