Super Quick Hats
Four days before Christmas 2016 I decided to at last get on with the hats I was going to make for my sons and husband. I probably should have started sooner, but as they were all going to use Plump, I got away with it. I used the same basic pattern for three of the hats, but changed the design enough so that they don't look like they are part of a funny group if they are out and about together.
This pdf pattern has all three designs on it and of course you too can tailor this to your own tastes! I'm lucky enough to have lots of small bits of Plump lying around which made the stripey hat possible, so bear that in mind if you have odds and ends lying around.
You need one skein of Plump per hat, but of course a second skein for each extra colour. You can see all the colours of Plump here
The pattern is written in the round. You also need 10mm and 12mm circular (40cm or 60cm) needles or double points.
The hats shown above are:
Top - Tim's hat - stripey version. Requires 1 skein blueberry muffin, and additional skeins of gooseberry fool, pistachio ice cream, peppermint cream, bonbon and sugared almond. You could of course just use one contrast colour.
Middle - Henry's hat - requires 1 skein blueberry muffin and one skein of cherry pie
Bottom - Freddie's hat - requires 1 skein damson jam and one skein of creme caramel.
The pdf pattern has instructions in two sizes - regular adult head and large.
Plump is a pretty standard superchunky (super bulky) weight and can be substituted as such.
Ballband Tension (gauge):
Using 10mm needles over stocking stitch: 10 sts to every 10cm
We have used it on many different needle sizes from 8mm to 20mm according to the structure and drape of fabric we want to produce. The larger the needle, the looser the fabric will be.
Washing
Plump Superchunky and Plump DK are made from the highest quality superfine merino and baby alpaca. These really are special and luxurious fibres and should be treated carefully! Having said that both yarns are suitable for delicate hand washing. Use a specialist detergent and do not agitate or twist the fibres to retain the gorgeous softness and shape of your garment.
Shedding
Because of the roving nature of our yarns (they are single ply, rather than tightly twisted), some shedding may occur. The best way to deal with this is spray your finished garment with water and leave to dry flat, naturally before the first wearing. This sets the fibres and should stop any problems. Using your yarn
All our yarn comes in skeins. Before using you need to wind the skein into a ball or you will get into an awful tangled mess! If you are not sure how to do this you can watch our video here!
